The Boukarkounda Medical Clinic, built years ago by the community, had fallen into serious disrepair due to lack of maintenance and resources. The facility was unusable, preventing approximately 800 residents of the village and surrounding areas from accessing essential medical care. This situation compromised community health, exposing people to daily health risks.

Balouo Salo, in collaboration with the Municipality and local masons, initiated a participatory renovation project. Materials, construction sites, and work management were organized with the involvement of the community and local families.

The interventions included roof replacement, bathrooms, screeds, and finishes, making the facility safe and accessible again. Today, the Medical Clinic is fully operational, providing basic medical consultations and healthcare to all residents, helping to prevent diseases and strengthen the right to health in an area where the nearest hospital is 80 km away.

The Project

Renovation of Boukarkounda Medical Clinic - Balouo Salo

The Boukarkounda Medical Clinic, located in the Simbandi Brassou municipality, had been in a state of disrepair for years and was unusable by the community. Lack of maintenance had compromised the roof, bathrooms, floors, and finishes, depriving the village of an essential healthcare reference point.

Thanks to the Balouo Salo project, in collaboration with the Municipality and local masons, a participatory renovation was initiated, involving the community and ensuring the availability of materials needed for the work.

The main interventions included: roof and covering replacement, bathroom construction, laying screeds, and interior and exterior finishes. The facility is now fully usable, safe, and functional, providing healthcare to about 800 people and to those traveling along the national road N6.

This intervention not only restores an essential facility but also protects the right to health, improves access to medical consultations, and strengthens community resilience.
