A School That Educates, Includes, and Inspires

  • Location: Senegal
  • Theme: Education and Human Development
  • Goal: Construction of a school complex
  • Status: Project in design phase
  • Technical Partner: Kengo Kuma - KKAA

Although education is a fundamental human right, today it remains a privilege, especially in the rural areas where Balouo Salo operates. Here, schools are precarious and overcrowded, with spaces unsuitable for learning and psycho-physical growth.

The Balouo Salo Schools project was born to address this gap by proposing an innovative, sustainable, and revolutionary educational and architectural model that makes education the focal point of personal and community development.

We want to create something unique in the world, supported by one of the most famous architects worldwide, Kengo Kuma, who together with his firm KKAA is designing a school of excellence where even the spaces – beyond the content – become educational tools.

A visionary project aiming to become an international benchmark for inclusive education, valuing local materials, environmental sustainability, and community participation.
An architecture that educates, cares, welcomes, and innovates.

Rural communities live in a state of significant educational disadvantage: there is a lack of adequate facilities, teaching materials, qualified staff, and above all, spaces that can truly educate.

With the Balouo Salo Schools project, we want to fill this gap by creating innovative school facilities where the environment itself becomes an ally in learning, stimulating psychological, physical, and neurological conditions to create the leaders of tomorrow.

Thanks to the collaboration with visionary architect Kengo Kuma and his firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, the school will be conceived as a work of excellence: a sustainable, accessible, inspiring campus, built with local materials, inclusive spaces, and educational paths integrated with the environment.

A project promoting a new educational paradigm in which spaces actively participate in the wellbeing, equality, and empowerment of communities, alongside holistic and neuro-centered programs where learning focuses on the individual, enhancing their uniqueness.

This project aspires to become one of the most revolutionary schools in the world, a symbol of cooperation, vision, and hope, destined to inspire other realities across the continent and the world.

We will update this page with project materials developed by Kengo Kuma and all the respective environments.

A holistic and neuro-centered educational approach that places the individual at the center of the learning process, valuing uniqueness, emotions, and potential. The curriculum does not dictate the path; rather, the child is accompanied in discovering the world through curiosity, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking.

It aims to create an education that teaches being before knowing, where self-awareness, analytical ability, and a sense of responsibility become tools to face life’s challenges and contribute to social change. The goal is to form free, strong, and emancipated personalities, capable of building solutions for tomorrow’s problems and becoming leaders of a fair, sustainable, and inclusive future.

In this model, the school will not simply be a place of learning, but a laboratory for human, social, and cultural growth, sowing hope and redemption in communities. It will also be an inclusive place open to everyone, where spaces become the core of development.
